COSMIAC’s Deputy Director (Dr. Jim Aarestad) directs the Center’s research and consulting work in the area of cybersecurity. Modern computing platforms, ranging from desktop- and server- class systems to the increasingly burgeoning list of network-attached embedded systems known as the Internet of Things (IoT), are all targets for unauthorized and malicious intrusion.

COSMIAC is involved in cybersecurity in three areas: 1) hardware security, 2) software security and assurance, and 3) the security of embedded systems.

  1. Cybersecurity
    1. Hardware Security
Hardware-Oriented Security & Trust (HOST) is a field of study that looks at the research that is being performed, and the technologies that are being developed, to create solutions and security risk mitigation strategies that are rooted in the hardware of a computing platform.
    2. Software Security and Assurance
COSMIAC’s research staff is actively involved in improving the state of software security, reliability, and robustness in space systems.
    3. IoT Security
IoT security is the area of concentration that is concerned with safeguarding connected devices and networks in the Internet of Things.
